University of the United Nations (UNU)

The United Nations University (UNU) is an institution based in Japan, which was born as a proposal of the then Secretary General U Thant, and which was approved through Resolution 3081 (XXVIII) of the General Assembly, of December 6 1973, which states the following: «Approves the Charter of the United Nations University, the text of which appears in the second addendum to the Secretary General's report, and invites the University Council to take into account the comments and observations on the aforementioned Charter formulated in the General Assembly, in consultation with the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, since, through the Economic and Society, present its report to the General Assembly so that at its thirtieth session the General Assembly may examine the amendments to the Charter that may be appropriate, in accordance with the procedures ntos provided for in said Charter. Decides that the United Nations University Center shall be based in the Tokyo metropolitan area in Japan.
