COVID-19: After a year with two million deaths, there is still a solidarity laziness with the end of the equitable distribution of vaccines

Behind the two million deaths from COVID-19  there are names and faces said the General Secretary of the United Nations to the universe when registering this Friday that dose of deaths due to the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, identified by avant-garde time conceived little much more than a year.

About a video message, António Guterres described that number as "a heartbreaking milestone" and regretted that the pandemic is much more serious due to " the absence of coordination at the global level ”.

Although the world's major economies bear a special responsibility, vaccines are reaching high-income countries with a fervor, while  the poorest in the universe have none Guterres noted, explaining that this opens a huge gap.

Science triumphs, solidarity fails

"Science is succeeding, however solidarity  is failing ”, He emphasized, and recalled that some countries are making parallel agreements to buy more immunizations than are required.

He recognized that governments have a responsibility to protect populations, “but the  'Nationalist vaccination fever'   it is counterproductive and will delay the global recovery ”, he added.

"COVID-19  you can't beat  one country at a time, ”Guterres stressed.

Science is developing safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19 and the UN is supporting regions to carry out the best global immunization effort in history.
